I tried to explain as best I could about my bell siphon works. If I left something out or you have a question... just leave it below. Thumbs up if you like Aquaponics.

  • hi. i just finished my first attempt of making my bell siphon for my first grow bed. when i tested it out it constantly had water comeing out of the return pipe. it hasnt been glued together or anything yet. Do bell siphons always put out water or did i make a mistake. thanks

  • @TheDaniandco The concept of the bell siphon is, it will start a siphon(begin to drain the bed fully, with the water still being pumped into it), and stop a siphon(stop letting water drain out, and therefore begin filling again) automatically. Hope that helps.

  • @gukobi thanks for the answer. I still want to make this project but time is a challenging matter this days. =(

  • @Carlodimaximus I"ve been doing my own research on these systems too. Yes plant roots do grow under water if there is a source of oxygen like an air pump. With the bell siphon you continuously flood the table. When the water reaches the siphon point it will begin draining the table while pulling air down to the roots. It keeps draining until the table is empty while new water is being pumped in and the process repeats. This way you can constantly flood without drowning your roots.

  • I am doing a research on this aquaponics. Question is, why would I want to drain out all the water from the bed? Can't the plants stay on water the whole time, just till certain level? how does it works with those plants on little plastic cups sitting just in the water? Thank you.. and by the way, great video, it looks like a nice system the one you have. =)

  • Explanation is too bad.

  • @TheSuburbanGardener Yes. I grew it this summer for the first time (in soil) although I had one in my aquaponics system for a little while. It is extremely early in producing, is very cold tolerant, and is also drought tolerant. It's awesome
