@javatar77 Kelvin is the best, then in my opinion Celcius (because thats what I use, rawr) and Fahrenheit is annoying. So is celcius but thats what I grew up with. \ o /

Me, too. Cheers!

The "incorrect" temperature scale and the "odd" measuring is really giving me headaches each time I got emails from my American customers. :-/

liquid helium will instantly turn to gas if it's it is put into an open container. plus it's really bad at cooling things you need loads of it to get anything cold as it has a low specific heat capacity. The flame like thing at the end of the video was this process of the liquid turning to gas in a jet.

But only liquid helium can cool the magnets down to a good enough temperature. So they have to have loads of it.

no, actually you could also use liquid hydrogen to get a magnet to go superconducting provided that you do not want to have a very large field. I'm not sure about what happens when you pump on hydrogen I don't think it will go to 1-2K like Helium.
If you want to go lower you have to mix helium 3 and helium 4 that will get you to about 100mK

Love pretty much every one of your videos, but this one just has the worst ending. What was the point of what was going on at the end? Was something cut that explained it?

No point to it really. I was just trying to convey some of the everyday fun that it is to work in a physics department. I think that's quite important in terms of recruiting young scientists. Apologies if I missed the mark.
