I was inspired by http://www.youtube.com/user/MsNicoleGoff to do a little process vid of a spiderman sketchcard I'm working on for Rittenhouse Archives. I recommend you check out hers as it's put together way better. This was only the inking phase and my first try at this. Music by Son Dam Bi, a korean pop star. Thought the beat would keep things interesting hehe.

  • sometimes the card is too low or too to the left as inking - but nothing to complain about. for most part looks right over head which is good. maybe pull back a bit - a bit. the speed doesnt seem too sea sicky fast - another plus.

    bring on another please.

  • Thanks for the tips ricksam! I had thought I had blocked out the area correctly but didn't notice until afterwards that i messed up =(. Gonna fiddle with my rig a bit more and try to iron those problems out =D.

  • (PART 3-last)

A good way to help with that when editing is while filming, remind yourself to move your hand out of view each time you need to pause and think (less movement on camera)...this will make it easier to cut those parts out.

Thanks for the shout out to me! I'm very happy to hear this has moved you to this point. I hope you keep them coming! You got off on a great start!

    -Nicole =)

  • Hey Nicole, Thanks a lot for the tips. There were definitely problems when i was trying to ink under my makeshift rig hehe. You are right, the card wasn't directly under the cam till i looked on my monitor hehe and i said oops! I'm not very good at the editing yet either. I just found a song close to the length of the vid. (I know, lazy way) I did clip a bit of the pause shots, but I missed a few too =(.

  • (PART 1)

Awesome! Good music...has a good beat for the time lapse. Is that a 102 nib? I only tries quil for practice my first year at JK's...but I latched on to the brush. Are you going to do the colors as well?

The camera quality's nice! But maybe mark your drawing area to remind you were to keep the cards so it best fits in view of the camera.

  • Yea, thats a 102. I started with that oh like 10 years ago and it's my main weapon of choice. I will see how the rig goes to see if I can do a colors timelapse too.

I do the card in batches of pencils, then inks, then colors. I rarely go from pencil to colors on one card then move to next.

  • Same here! I ONLY did them all at the same time for the Goblin. And even then, I waited about an hour in between each...leaving the card in place so the editing isn't too obvious.

    It makes you feel differently when you draw doesn't it? Not just in a new position, but knowing someone's going to watch it. It feels both good and unnerving...^^;

Maybe your vid will get me to try out the nib...I might find a use for it among my brush work...maybe for backgrounds. ;P

    Hope the rig goes well!

  • I choose the songs in the same way! I edit down my video to look decent then pick the song...then go back to check where I need to make shorter...if I have to make longer (after time lapse/cutting) then I simple make the start and finish longer. Pauses or speeding up/slowing down..for title and credits...fading too. Like I said though, you did great for your first!

  • (PART 2)

If you're looking to do these more often and want to smooth them up more (keep the flow with the music and time lapse), then I suggest cutting out more of the 'pauses'...so you're continuously drawing...smoothly. I didn't do that my first one. ^^; Sometimes it'll break the rhythm and flow when watching.
