  • This is so sick. This was during the "recession-era" of skating - tons of people had quit and only the hardcore continued - this is probably some of the best UK footage I've ever seen of that time.

What kids these days don't appreciate is that we had like 3 indoor parks across the whole country and a deck cost £70!! Boards and wheels got skinnier, the wheel-base changed (remember re-drilling! LOL). Tricks got really tech. Clothes were massive. Cut off jeans, gazelles. Happy happy days :-)

  • I love old footages..., tom penny, forever...

  • it seems like 20 years gone.... but i still remember wearing gardener pants and pressuring my flips.

    sick !

  • god damn i love skateboarding... a moment in time that should never be forgotten

  • @SwitchRich Looking back yeah those clown clothes were pretty ridiculous but back then it was awesome cause nobody else had started wearing baggy clothes yet, it was only a skateboarder thing. Only a year or two later did everyone else start doing it. Besides I dont think it looks any more ridiculous than today's skinny jeans.

  • @tylerpfreely looking back I liked '89-91 best. The style was much more solid during that short but sweet era. By '92 things got a bit ugly and the style was lost. Tricks were super tech but done sloppy, the boards so super skinny and the wheels were tiny yet the clothes were clownish. Took 'til around '96 or so for skating to become much more smooth again. I'm glad to have been a part of skateboarding's progression.

  • @jonnydigital666 U summed up perfectly how i remember this era. Skateboardings mainstream popularity had died completely, all the posers who only did it cuz it was trendy in the 80s had quit and only the real skateboarders still did it. We were looked at as freaks back then, being one of the only few left in our town wearing huge clown clothing nobody else was doing yet. It was almost a depressing time but also very exciting cuz things were just getting very tech. Everything was so new back then

  • Tom Penny has a g-style
