Cairns Ukulele Festival July 3 2010 ukulele James Hill cello Anne Davison ... James opened the final night's performance with reference to Nova Scotia - where if you're going to a party, everyone takes along a musical instrument. A couple of East Coast Canadian party dance tunes - "Smash the Window" & a famous Canadian reel -"St Anne's Reel" .... as James says "A Little Bit of Home " :)))
I left Nova Scotia in 1963. In the 1970's there were ukulele choirs in the schools. J Chalmers Doane wanted school children to learn to play a musical instrument. It needed to be affordable. He wanted the children to be able to sing along while they played. James Hill is the prodigy that resulted I think. Marvelous. Thanks for sharing.

@waterdog226 Thanks Lynda for your comment - yes, James is I believe eternally grateful that the ukulele was placed in his hands as a result of the J Chalmers Doane program. I mean how lucky was he, and now, how lucky are we. Such wonderful music :)
