Astro´s latest service, Astro B.yond IPTV, will finally bring Astro´s HD channels, personal video recording (PVR), video on demand (VOD) services as well as broadband Internet to high-rise residences using TIME dotCom Berhad´s fibre broadband network.

The service leverages on TIME´s 100 percent fiber network. Instead of using a satellite dish and direct-to-home box, the Astro B.yond IPTV service delivers content through high-speed fibre broadband, using a fibre modem with built-in Wi-Fi and a HD- and PVR-enabled box.

This enables subscribers to simultaneously view HD-quality programmes and also surf in high-speeds simultaneously at up to 30Mbps.

Each home will have a dedicated bandwidth of 100Mbps, which is enough to support two concurrent Astro B.yond boxes that is simultaneously showing one HD channel, recording another HD channel and downloading VOD programmes in HD. Subscribers can also surf at up to 30 Mbps at the same time.

In the middle of the year, Astro will also be making available voice services as well as an option for a multi-room experience.

"Almost 320,000 existing Astro customers living in centralised high-rise residences are unable to enjoy Astro B.yond services and this presents an opportunity for Astro to bring these services to them," said Datuk Rohana Rozhan, chief executive officer of Astro Malaysia.

Presently, Astro B.yond IPTV is available at 60 high-rise condominiums within Mont Kiara, KLCC, Bangsar and Penang.

It will be progressively available to 167,000 homes in 730 multi-dwelling units in the Klang Valley and Penang by the end of the year, Rohana added.

Currently, four broadband packages are available -- RM128 for 3Mbps per month, RM148 for 6Mbps per month, RM218 for 12Mbps per month and RM298 for 24Mbps.
