I knew Billie Holiday. The bass player in my band today worked with her in the 1950s in Philadelphia. She was always gracious to the musicians who backed her. As far as we are concerned, she was "Lady" Day in every sense of the word. And she could sing with the best of them even though her range was only 8 notes or so. Her inner beauty was apparent to all of us.

Quote from below - "They need to listen to this song and LIVE IT" speaking on black people... {I say} No one seems to realize that black people were not allowed to learn "life" during slavery and then we were set free to figure it out; now we are lost AND seen as the ones to blame for being lost. We should be praised, books were prohibited. We overcame events which should have destroyed us.

Sorry to tell you but we are not Post-Racial. Ms. Brunswick was just speaking on the Blues. You cannot talk about the Blues and not mention Black Plight. There would be no Blues without it.

Racism, bias, discrimination, brutality, and violence are alive and well.
The proof is in the puddin'. I miss Billie.

all that was endured, all that was suffered, slavery-all the families torn apart, lost, all led to this year, 2013- The 2nd-inauguration of a man whose Father was Native African, his Mother;Caucasian from America. A man elected not for the color of his skin, but for his ideas, his belief in We The People. The President-undreamt of a few years ago. I am so proud Americans proved President Obama was not an anomaly -Pres. Obama RE-elected. No better validation. We have come a long way.
