The men and the machine - Bill Andrew and Frank Santrian with The Duchess

My little tribute to two of mainline steam's finest enginemen. Bill and Frank did us all proud on 10 October 2009 with a trip up shap to remember. I'm still not certain whether it was their last trip before retirement, but these two modest gentlemen were besieged with well-wishers at Carlisle station. Thank you for your combined skills over many years.

A true "top link" crew. Hat's off to the pair of them. However as someone at work said last week while secretly snatching a crafty read of my Steam Railway mag, "don't you think it's asking for it letting two guys aged 75 yrs each, take a train circa 500 tons with X hundred people on board out - when most other hard strenous jobs would have seem them mandatory retired long since"? He had a point - no disrespect was meant - I couldn't really answer it without agreeing somewhat.
