Pure Class.

I was fascinated with this song since it appeared in Flying Circus, and I'm so happy that it turns out there was a longer version.
Back there, it just seemed like a lullaby/love-song sung by someone who was about to go off into war, but here it paints a different picture -- one of a lonely rich man, trying to study a happy couple and analyze exactly where love sprouts, exactly how a fantasy grows, exactly when a dream begins. Poor fellow can't figure it out, it seems.

This defines retro-chic! Hilarious and touching at the same time. They say when you steal from one source it's plagiarism, but if you steal from many sources it's research. Neil Innes is a rare talent and an excellent researcher.

I like the dancing in a way, but the dancing couple looks like they could really annoy me, once the dancing is over. I wonder what they would talk about, and how and I guess it could me make run away screaming.

Note the form of transport, then look at the end of How Sweet to be an Idiot. I reckon our Neil likes his railways.

...and the tap-dancing annoys the shit out of me too. :-]

They should put this song in Fallout 3.

I never realized that Neil was writing a parody of Noel Coward. This clip shows it. Thanks much.
Innes was truly one of the most underrated, brilliant songwriters...

Ahh, good old Neil Innes. Wish they would reissue "Innes Book Of Records" on DVD. A show that combined absurdity with poignancy.
This song actually cropped up first in the last series of Monty Python.
