"The sectarianism the Bible refers to includes internal strife. If you find yourself tempted to leave the organization based on something you have learned, don't be presumptuous and assume that you know what is best for you. Take the issue to Jehovah in prayer, and he can 'direct you in the way in which you should walk.' (Psalm 143:8) But if we don't approach Jehovah with such matters, we may find ourselves in opposition to Jehovah before we realize it, and that is a fearful position to be in. —Hebrews 10:26-31
The Bible warns that such ones are "puffed up [with pride], not understanding anything, but being mentally diseased over questionings and debates about words." (1 Timothy 6:4) Yes, their thinking is corrupted by a gross infection of the mind as debilitating as any mental illness. Can such illness infect you through written or spoken word? Indeed it can. Note that those who live with bipolar individuals can themselves develop bipolar symptoms. Other mental illnesses such as depression can also be acquired through regular exposure to such individuals. Still other illnesses are caused by an exposure to external influences. But the mental illness of apostates is the most dangerous of all, as it can jeopardize our relationship with God.
One should not make a regular diet of apostate materials. As Christians we know the dangers of constant exposure to anything contrary to God. It can be infectious. Note the effect that repeated exposure to unwholesome entertainment or following political debates has had on you or other Christians you know currently or in the past. The effect is clear and takes hold, manifesting itself through one's speech and conduct, and is hard to root out. Apostasy takes hold in the same way. We do not have to agree with anything said. We only need to have regular exposure to it before it begins to infect our thinking.
Exposure to apostate thinking should be countered with careful study in the Bible and Bible-based publications, not looking for verification of the apostate material, but countering the material with diligent research and seeking God's thoughts through prayer."
