Lecture Title: "Course Introduction"
March 31st, 2009
Professor Courtenay Raia lectures on science and religion as historical phenomena that have evolved over time. Examines the earlier mind-set before 1700 when into science fitted elements that came eventually to be seen as magical. THe course also question how Western cosmologies became "disenchanted." Magical tradition transformed into modern mysticisms is also examined as well as the political implications of these movements. Includes discussion concerning science in totalitarian settings as well as "big science" during the Cold War.

Maybe it's just me, but she gives me the impression of a strange fusion between Sarah Palin and intelligence.

Why are the lecture slides on the course web page inaccessible to non-students (apart from the first 2, that is)? Is there a way to get hold of them somehow? It's kinda antithetical to offer the lectures for free to the public and to even display the slides in the lectures, obly to require a student account to access the slides on the course web page...

At that time though, it was. Astronomy and Astrology were pretty much considered the same back then.

I got bored in the first lecture. She lost me early when she said astronomy and astrology were connected. Does she eventually get into interesting information in later lectures? This seemed like a history lecture using the words science occasionally.

I think it has to do with copyrights. Which is probably why all pictures are blurry in the video.

True, my opinion is made up by what i've experienced and nothing more... Can you think of anything else it's made from?
You can lie about believing something but that doesn't mean u believe it. You either believe something or you don't. There's no other choice.....
