Riding on the Z389 northbound train from Ohatchee, AL to Laney Tunnel. This trip begins with crossing the Coosa River and heading in a north direction. After the river crossing we go past the Wood Chip Mill owned by Georgia Pacific, where hopper cars were getting loaded with chips. Next we pass the Ohatchee siding. Later in the video we pass through Wellington and I look back at our train in the tight ten mile an hour curve. This curve was actually the connecting track between the ex L&N and ex SAL lines. These two lines crossed each other on a diamond. The diamond is removed and only the interchange track remains today. Lastly we climb the steepest hill from Birmingham to Gadsden when going north at Laney Tunnel. The top of the grade is actually inside the tunnel and we were going very slow making the grade. Our lead locomotive was the HBR 2001 (Hudson Bay Railway)
GP-38-2.
