Top 20 Best Video Games of the 2000s Decade - Part 1/2 (#20-11)

With the initial decade of the 21st Century now behind us, I take a look back at the best games we were presented. Of course, the decade was so loaded that limiting this to only ten games would be a grave injustice, so I've expanded it to twenty. Here's Part 1 of 2 (#20-11).

I think that about 80% of this is accurate, but their are some very obvious flaws. Why in the hell are wii sports and bejewled ahead of SOTC and SSBM/B? Seriously? I must say CoD is my favorite game franchise, and I like the MW games to death, but SOTC MUST be on here. The emotional ending, the pithc perfect gameplay, and of course, the epic collosi themselves! The ifnal collossus malus to my knowledge has only been beaten twice in terms of epicness.

@eviletcetera, did you read my reasons for including those games? The "why" question can easily be answered by understanding those reasons.

People complain about Wii Sports while ignoring the fact that it's stretched gaming's boundaries to populations that used to never touch controllers. It's fun for ages 5-95. Bejeweled is often hailed as this century's Tetris with its simple yet addictive gameplay (plus popularity). Developers hold it in very high regards.

@ZhangtheGreat Wii sports, not saying its a bad game, but me and literally every friend I had enjoyed SSB more than wii sports. Wii sports gets tired VERY fast. AWii sports was literally the same five minigames over and over and OVER. Every Colossus is unique and I say again, the final colloussus (ifnal lol) has only ever been topped by Kronos and Jubileus. SOTC is the epitemy of epic. Wii sports also has no real characters, while SOTC's end was very sad. Wii sports=no plot. SOTC=original.

@eviletcetera, keep in mind how these games were picked: story was only considered as a factor if it actually applied to the game. If a game was purposely designed without a story, it didn't "lose points," because there's no point in punishing a game for that.

Gameplay and impact were the two most important factors. Wii Sports and Bejeweled had great gameplay, just like many of their competitors, but their impacts were bigger, which is why they were picked over others.

@robberblood, what ultimately landed Wii Sports above those two titles was impact. As outstanding as KotOR and ME were, they didn't spread gaming to generations that never picked up a controller before. They didn't make playing video games a massive social affair in both the living room and office. They also didn't introduce the concept of motion gaming, which has now spread to both Sony and Microsoft. The gameplay quality of all three was relatively even, but impact put Wii Sports over the top.
