A new PC or Mac should be able to play back AVCHD movies. Windows7 can play AVCHD movies, while VLC is the best bet for the Mac (you can get VLC for PC also).
Give VLC a go on your PC and see if it gets close to keeping up.

should i get a more powerful pc or a mac to edit an playback my avchd files. I have vixia hf200 and my pc can't even play the fies.
