July 9, 2011 -- Spokane, WA: The Spokane Shock made history tonight. Not only did Spokane play the first regular season outdoor AFL game, the Shock also recorded its highest point total of the season in a 76-49 victory in front of a franchise-record crowd of 16,233.

The Shock played its most complete game of the season. Spokane's potent offense scored on its first 11 possessions, while the defense created four turnovers (and scored on three of them).

Quarterback Erik Meyer, obtained from Utah in a trade a month ago, completed 15 of 19 passes for 166 yards and six touchdowns. He also had 17 rushing yards with two more scores. He left early in the fourth quarter with cramps and Kyle Rowley took over.

After the two teams traded two touchdowns each, in the first quarter, a Blaze fumble was recovered by defensive back Alex Teems. On the next play, Meyer hooked up with receiver Chas Gessner for a 24-yard touchdown pass to put the Shock up 28-14. After another quick score by Utah, Meyer and the Shock's offense took only one play to score again, on a 45-yard bomb to newly acquired receiver Brandon Thompkins.

Todd Hammel started in place of injured quarterbacks Tommy Grady, the AFL leader in touchdown passes (107), and Jordan Rasmussen. Hammel, the 44-year-old 15-year AFL veteran completed 23 of 34 passes with five touchdowns. He also threw two second half-interceptions, one to Teems and the other to Ruschard Dodd-Masters.

Leading the Shock in receiving was Adron Tennell who caught ten passes for 82 yards and a season-high five touchdowns. Thompkins finished with 67 yards and a touchdown in his first AFL game.

Next week the San Jose SaberCats, who defeated the Shock in their season opener, will come to the Spokane Arena to play the Shock. With a Spokane win, and a Tulsa loss, the Shock will clinch a berth in the playoffs. Tickets for next week's game are still and can be purchased by contacting TicketsWest.
