It is not true that the Bible "had a makeover"; Jesus fulfilled the Old Testament Law and Prophets.
Islam is the antithesis of Biblical religion: Muhammad preached and practiced the violation of all Ten Commandments and the Golden Rule, blasphemy against the Son of God, and the raping, enslaving, and slaughter of Christ's Bride, the Church.

well, irrational and uneducated elites can equally influence followers - that's the power of politics. Better to have intellectuals running things in my view. Also, the opposite to leftist, "contrarion" followers are fundamentalist morons who lack any real ability, e.g. George W Bush.

There's always been a fascination on the left (especially leftist academics, who's only connection to the Real World is through their young, impressionable and "contrarion" students) with the idea of intellectual anti-intellectualism (they love contradictions). For a very simple reason: smart elites can easier influence uneducated followers. The interesting part is, that most of these ideas came from leftist, jewish academics.....and now fuel the anti-Israeli agenda of the far left. Oh the irony

"beastly race with beastly religion" Churchill on Indians. I doubt the 6million Indians who died from force starvation under british rulematic stance would agree with you. and the singh speech you cite is hardly an endorsement of british rule but rather a pragmatic stance. dictators have done some good things for their people, it doesn't absolve them of their atrocities.and my point all along was Britain gave up the jewel to save their own democratic legitimacy

You guessed wrong. I wasn't going to say that. I was going to say that the Arab citizens of Israel have the full range of civil rights that any citizen of any democratic country has. The Israelis don't set a quota of Arab parliamentarians, and don't select friendly Arab politicians to fill those slots. Arab citizens are free to run for parliament, to raise money, to campaign, and to be elected as individual Israelis --- with no interference from the state. How is that apartheid? It just isn't.

You keep dropping the names of academics. I'm sorry to tell you that this tactic is less than worthless. Yes, there is a fringe of academic leftists who consider themselves revisionists and revolutionaries. This fringe contains perhaps hundreds of academics, so one can drop names all day long; but they make up a small and isolated minority within their fields. They attract such fame and attention precisely because of how far their views deviate from the mainstream in their disciplines.

Hundreds of historians and other commentators have elaborated on that basic fact. I don't say the matter is free of controversy, but there are a great many leading lights of the former colonies who have expressed a reserved admiration and gratitude for the democratic institutions installed under British colonial rule. For example, read the recent speech of Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, appearing in print under the title "India's experience with Britain had benefits too".

your telling me arab Israelis have the exact same rights as jewish Israelis. let me guess you ll tell me better then other middle eastern countries. well your right, its good to see a democracy use autocratic countries as the litmus test for establishing a democracy.that argument is vacuous at best. democracy and ethnic state is an oxymoron.
