Sheet music now available. An arrangement of the Eleventh Doctor's theme for two pianos - as composed by Murray Gold and orchestrated by Ben Foster.

The actual theme in its full orchestral glory, as performed by the BBC National Orchestra of Wales, is available on the Series 5 soundtrack, released by Silva Screen Records on CD and for digital download:

UK: http://itunes.apple.com/gb/album/doctor-who-series-5-soundtrack/id398687561

It's not out on US iTunes yet, but can still be ordered directly from Silva Screen, worldwide:

VERSION 2:
Well, it's stayed a pretty verbatim rendition of the orchestra version as heard at Doctor Who at the Proms 2010, with a few additions taken from the series, notably the bit at 01:47, but also some supporting voices. In other words, I'm not bothering much with this one anymore, so this is most likely the final version.

Improved a lot of dynamics; gave a bit more for each piano to do, made some thin chords less... well, thin; added some voicings and harmonies that hadn't been noticed in version 1. Also fixed a few glaring mistakes (not least the ending).

Yeah, it should really be 7/8 (most of it - notably excluding the bit starting at 3:52), whenever it says 7/4. Not a fan of all the crossbar ties that would add, even if this is a rather unconventional notation of the rhythm, which might confuse someone reading the sheet music without knowing the piece. I'll probably end up fixing the beams of quavers to reflect the rhythm somewhat more accurately.

  • I feel like you should've split the 7/4 measures into two 7/8 measures. They feel more correct that way.

    Otherwise, great transcription!!

  • @kongming819 - thanks :-) Already says why I didn't in the description - other than the fact that Gold thinks of it as 7/4 even if it's 7/8. :-)

  • @TheOtherKaneda Oh I see. Oops.

Whoa! Did you get Gold's opinion on this piece, or did he say that somewhere?

  • @kongming819 - he said 7/4 in the liner notes for the season 5 soundtrack, and on twitter added: "Me and Ben say 7/4 though some have also described it as 7/8- which it could also be."

  • yes i finally found a youtube video with no dislikes

  • @Maira67 - Well, that's just because I haven't clicked the dislike button yet. ;-) Honestly, this *is* my least favorite arrangement of all. Not the music's fault. Just that the arrangement is an early one, and rather uninspired - at some point, a new one might appear. :-)

  • The 5 dislikes were a Dalek, a Cyberman, a Sontaren, a Weeping Angel, & an Arachnos!

  • would you consider sending the MIDI? I can HARDLY read sheet music and it's a huge inconvenience trying to learn it ALL by ear, I've got most of it but some I cant quite do, and a MIDI would greatly help, so I'd appreciate it!

  • @crazywhofan6676 Actually i was quoting the 8th dr from a Gallifrey Base Convention Show who when asked by the 7th dr,how he regenerated.Oh the Gallifreyians weren't all smart, the 2010 RTD ones were Evil and merciless and The 1970-1980's ones were smart

  • @jaykthepikachu Don't call them Gallifeyians. Gallifreyians are clever

  • This really is a great arrangement. I hate to ask, but have you considered a solo version?

  • I don't suppose you have the *.pdf for this song do you? I'd hate to lug my computer around all the time while I'm learning to play this.

  • Do you mind if I arrange this version for string orchestra and perform it? The reason being that I am raising money to go to a music camp in main (i live in michigan) and am holding a concert to help raise money.

  • Excellent! I thought the original version was nice but a bit off, this one sounds much better! Keep it up!
