Amtrak Crescent Crash plus #20 in Slidell, Louisiana

I heard from the newspaper that the locomotives and Baggage car that derailed were still there at the site so I took a look.

Then a couple minutes later, the southbound Amtrak Crescent came through slidell with a good horn.
Amtrak P42s 9 and 123.

why did it derail?

@swissairflying A truck coming from the Textron Military Plant carrying 3 Amphibious tanks on a low-boy trailer when it went across a unprotected crossing (no gates or lights, just a sign) when the Northbound Amtrak Crescent coming from New Orleans hit the trailer and destroyed the front of the train and the area around it.

@bmxboy5642 I was there like the saturday after the accident. I was at the entrance to the textron plant, then I went over to the train station

I wonder if those 2 locomotives were ever taken to the shop to be repaired after the accident? Just curious. :)

@Railfan108 The crossing that it was at doesn't have gates or a light, so the driver didnt see it coming. it was carrying Amphibious tanks to the Textron facility.
