The Henrietta Barnett School in London also performed this around 2008/2009. I was a soprano and loved every bit of it! I wish I was still in choir, can't wait to go back :)
Im in choir at college and we'll be doing this for our spring concert next month. My friend and I weren't sure about this song at first, but it's definitely growing on me! It's very pretty and dark, and love dark music like this or Castlevania Lament of Innocence music.
Surely what is more remarkable is that this requiem was composed by an agnostic who leaned toward atheism. I think that being able to write without the burden of dogma has allowed faure to write a beautiful requiem as it should be, without the mysticism and superstision that pervades so much 'church' music.
@hadi2f Actually, I think if you did a little research, you would find that this "music" is really a prayer addressed to Jesus (God) for the faithfully departed. Don't you know this? Two weeks ago I sang this at Mass.
I am not "mislead by current happenings" I simply know the difference between Islam and Christianity. Mohamud did not believe in Jesus as God incarnate, nor did he believe that Christ was the FINAL revalation of God to man. If he did he would have become a Christian.
@Flutenatic let's not turn music into a religious debate in here :)
Please check the records for "Mohamud does not believe in Jesus" though, it's a common mistake people fall into due to the current misleading happenings around the world.
@hadi2f Do you believe Jesus (Issa) is the Son of God? This is Christian belief that makes us Christian. We believe God and Jesus are one and the same. I never understood why Mohamud called Jesus Hazrat if Jesus's cornerstone teaching was that he is the son (and equal) of God, yet Mohamud does not believe in Jesus.
Anyways, Have a blessed Ramadan and eat plenty of Dates! :)
