In 1969, with a new Mick Taylor on board, the Stones recorded Hillside Blues (aka I Don't Know the Reason Why). To date it has never been released (don't know the reason why?!) . It might be overlong, but is still a showpiece of Mick Taylor's blues work. Keith weaves in well with him and Jagger is in cruisy form. Recorded at Elektra Studios, Los Angeles, October 1969, Vocal: Mick Jagger Weaving Guitars: Mick Taylor (main) & Keith Richards Bass: Bill Wyman Drums: Charlie Watts Sax: Bobby Keys

  • Hi Clean3, there are so many supporting muso's that don't get the recognition they so deserve. Thanks for pointing out Jim Dickinson and his role on Wild Horses (one of the Stones greatest tracks). I recently visited the Muscle Shoals studio in Alabama on a trip from Australia where that footage was shot just to see a piece of history as so much fantastic music was recorded there. I could visualise the guys reclining back and drinking in the vibe from those sessions.

  • bring back taylor for their 2011 farewell tour

  • Taylor was the best. 20 years old and walks into the 2nd biggest band in the world and and just lifted them up to Hendrix, Who, Zep class as a stage act. Never been the same since he left.

This and I Ain't Lying should have been on Exiles. Both would have fit the mood and feeling. Great post Trog57 -- mucho gracias!!

  • @cameltooth1 - you are a confirmed idiot, Zep tighter than the Stones? that's laughable. Zep was great but not a really much of a band, it was each individual jerking off together, kind of like what you do every night. Beatles better musicians? Better vocals and better composers, but that about it.

  • @harp1925 Taylor lifted the Stones up to my level. Brian Jones was talented and boring. Woody is sloppy like Keith. Zep was tighter than the Stones or the Who, but Plant made them sloppy and Page did sometimes. Jagger is the best in Taylor years. The Beatles were better musicians than the Stones except Ringo, but he could sing. Stones just played more and better rock n roll and blues.
