What you call sky lantern disaster, I call sky lantern WIN! That was awesome, Im learning to make these and came across your vid, I really like the design, it IS too bad it burned up. Did you use any fire retardant? Anyway awesome vid, very cool design i hope I can make one like it, it looked like a space ship

@Ariakas7708 Unfortunately I did not make this. This was a test flight of a lantern that one of the members of my fireworks club brought to a shoot. As I understand it they do not use fire retardant paper, and because of that not many suppliers in the States will carry them. Rightly so it seems.

what caused that? I have never seen one of these in person. what is the fuel source?

@fart1fart1 The fuel source in this particular model is a piece of fabric that is soaked in flammable oil. In most other models I have seen, the sky lantern is fueled by a large square of cardboard soaked in wax. The problem with this model is not the fuel source, but the paper used to make the balloon. In other sky lanterns, the paper is flame retardant. It will burn if a flame is held up to it, but will not burn on its own. This lantern was made with the wrong paper.
