Certain species such as the Channel cat, will actually engulf their babies with their mouths in order to give them a hiding place from predators, or to clean off silt that could otherwise suffocate the little ones. And it's really the male who does all of the work while going without any food for several weeks. Now that's parental dedication! In fact, the male of many fish species such as the Black Bass(Largemouth, spotted, etc.) are the ones who do most of the parenting.
