Read "Generation Debt" by Anya Kamenetz. In the chapter "Federal Rip-offs" she explains how Social Security and Medicare are eating up a bigger and bigger part of the federal budget and the system may eventually collapse, like a Ponzi. We just WASTED $3 trillion on the Iraq war, which was added to the national debt. Future generations will see their taxes go towards paying off the national debt, instead of education or health care.

I suggest government should not be involved in these matters. Maybe if government was not involved, there would be proper competition among the colleges.

Hey, congrats getting your video on CNN. We blogged about the CNN program here:

Awesome opposing viewpoint. Please create a video and upload it to YouTube. The video should state your name and where you are from and your argument. I am creating a 5 part video series on Affordable College Tuition and I need opposing viewpoints. I can not guarantee I will use your video and please stick to the CNN/Youtube guidelines.
Hopefully my video series will be spotlighted and we can get further dialog going. TIA

The federal goverment was not intended to take care of the peoples every need. It was intended to protect our freedom and liberty. If the feds stayed out of education for one, the free market would drive prices and they would be lower.

You make an interesting point. Define foreboding.
I'm a dependent of a H1-B. Next fall I'll be studying nursing, and becoming a RN with a BSN. I don't qualify for federal aid, or many scholarships. Yet, I'm sucking it up, paying 40k a year(with loans), and getting a degree that will land me with a job. So while I(a H1B-dependent) am saving hundreds of lives, what will you(an American citizen!) be doing? Making movies. Hm. I wonder who'll be contributing more to the overall wellfare of this country.

Lucas,
Why is your bill $48,000 and what does it include? I would like to see that number backed up.
Plus, do you know how much the difference between the international/out-of-state bill is compared to the in-state one? Also, no offense, but do you know how much financial aid is available to international students compared to American students?
You need to be a little more respectful to those who don't have the same opportunities (as you do) and still succeed (as you do).

I don't know the bill for non-citizens to go to school in America. Please create a video and upload it to YouTube with these facts and/or your viewpoint.
