  • I hope Michel sang this song because it was popular.

If he believed what he sang, we will never see him again.

  • @spongebobnik Why?

  • @largow2000 c'est John qui l'a écrit ^^

  • @flensdude

Well if he (Berger) didn't believe in Heaven as we know it, then he'd got to another place, different than the one we're hoping on going to ... So either we'll never see him, it's just logical ^^

  • @spongebobnik You did not specifically say that Berger was an unworthy person. However, in your previous comment: "I hope Michel sang this song because it was popular. If he believed what he sang, we will never see him again.", one kinda gets that impression.

I'm certain Berger sang this song because he enjoyed it, not because it was popular (too bad about the quality). Whether he believed in it or not? Well, at least some of us will see him again if he did.

  • @flensdude God loves me, so I am compelled to love others. Didn't a famous poet write that "No man is an island" ? I never said Michel was an unworthy person. Only he could tell you what he believed. Christianity is not about tolerance. It does not tolerate sin (ie. murder) It's about love. Christians believe that: "By faith are you saved through faith, and that not of yourselves. It is the gift of God. Not by works, lest any man boast." Ephesians 2:8 That is why I care about Michel.

  • @KalB971 I suppose it depends on who you ask. In my point of view, saying stuff like: "I hope you didn't mean what you just said, otherwise you're on your way to hell," is intolerant because people have their own ideas and thoughts about life, and those views don't concern anyone else but oneself.

Also, I'm not quite certain if that is quite what Lennon intended for the song, but your interpretation is close enough. Yes, this is a John Lennon song by the way.

  • Je préfère la reprise de John Lenon.

  • @flensdude

There's no intolerance in what he said ... But he did miss the point of the song I think if people worried more about making the world a better place rather than just waiting on a rapture or an afterlife, then we'd have a better world right now ... I think that might be the point of this song but ironically ... That's kind of the point of the New Testament so ... ^^

  • @spongebobnik Why are you making such a big deal out of it anyway? He was one man with his own thoughts and ideas, and whatever he believed in, doesn't concern your life whatsoever. If someone invokes god's wrath upon themselves everytime they swore, that's their problem, but don't go judging them for being unworthy or such because they have other attributes to which one should pay more attention. I thought Christianity encouraged tolerance, not the opposite

  • If there is no heaven, there is no God, no eternal home. But what is described in the song is heaven, where "He shall wipe away every tear from their eyes; and there shall no longer be any death; there shall no longer be any mourning, or crying, or pain" Revelation 21:4. If we would put away our fear of calling the afterlife heaven, because we want to be accepted by the majority who believe there is nothing, then we would have greater peace, which I hope is what Michel believed.
