Marty sang this song on one of his two Johnny Cash show appearances. It's a very sad song about a girl wanting to make something of herself who heads for the city leaving her love behind. She doesn't 'make it' in the city and the couple are reunited, but only in tragedy. Despite it's sad, sad story it really is one of the greatest songs he ever wrote in my opinion. Like so many of his songs, a mini-movie.

His songwriting was second to none. Not just an extremely gifted, versatile vocalist his songwriting skills were just as gifted and versatile. He could write about anything he put this mind to.

I think this is so beautiful and have since I first heard it many years ago.I have a Long Play record of it that is scratched. Can anyone tell me where I might purchase this awesome masterpiece on a CD or whatever?

I have to cry reading all the comments from people who have been touched by such a real
performer who reached out to touch us all. I my self have learned much when performing for those who came to listen to my own performance
