hi, how do you verify so you know the answers are right? ? (like to find the root)

We can always check our answers by putting them back into the equation for the variable and working it out to see that it is equal to what it should be.
For example, let's say we solved the equation x + 5 = 9 and got x = 4.
We can put the 4 back into the original equation to get:
4 + 5 = 9
Then we can simplify to get 9 = 9 which is true so we know our answer is correct.

Check out the word problems in your book. Also, it's a building block toward more complex equations that you might use for real-world problems. :-)
