Testing out Hoops 7D, trying out ideas I have for a project involving my parents.

From this test I see that I need to learn how to light better.

For this test I used the 7D, with the 50mm 1.8
Shot in 24fps, i think the f stop was 4.0, iso 100, and 200 shutter...I need to keep better track of that.

One 500 watt shop light placed about 4 feet slightly to the left of the subject.
Camera was just to the right of the light.
One 200W household light in a reflector used as a rim light.

I want to get the background completely black, get the reflection off the subjects
eyeglasses, and have more control of the shadows around her face.

Any help would be appreciated.

  • @CaliKim29 Thanks for the kind words Kim. I can't really watch this video anymore. Things have gotten worse since I shot this and it is really hard on mom.Not sure if I can handle documenting this. So many people face this today, and I know it has touched your family as well.

  • Wow - what an emotional, heartfelt piece on how difficult it is to see a loved one suffer and how hard it is for the caretakers. Loved the black and white - it fits perfectly for the tone of the video. Stunning.

  • @VisionOneFilms Thanks...I really appreciate your sympathy. I know you understand the challenges we face.

I really think there is a story to tell here. And I am not sure how much longer we have to tell it.

  • I loved the look of this shoot, very fitting for the topic and nature of what is being discussed. It is a great look, keep experimenting and filming. And, my sympathies to you and your family as one also having a parent with dementia.
