Entertainment reporter Tim Estiloz profiles the classic spy TV show, "The Man From UNCLE". This phenomenally popular 1960's TV show starring Robert Vaughn and David McCallum was a clever mix of high adventure spy intrigue - mixed with clever tongue-in-cheek humor. The show became a world-wide TV hit... spawning huge ratings, fan clubs, and a merchandising gold mine in UNCLE related collectibles and toys. The spy series was so incredibly popular in it's scope - even the Beatles asked to meet with one of the two stars, Robert Vaughn on their first tour of the USA. This feature profiles the show "behind the scenes", the fan frenzy and the program's profound impact then... and now. This story was written and produced by Tim Estiloz. It originally aired on the entertainment news TV program, "Backstage" - seen on CN8 The Comcast Network.

  • "An Iraqi being a star of a major series..."

    Has she not seen Lost?

  • Well... to be fair. He is not referred to in every episode as Iraqi except in very early season flashbacks.

Also - and the character in Lost is part of an ensemble... not the star of the show... nor is he portraying a hero. In UNCLE - Kuryakin was a hero... fighting against tyranny in each episode to varying degrees. There IS a difference... however slight.

  • In case anyone was wondering, the balding man is Danny Biederman, creator of the online Spy-Fi archives. The woman in glasses who calls David 'hot' is Ellen Druda, site owner of DMc Fans Online. The blonde woman is Dr. Cindy W Walker, an associate professor of communication and media literacy. The dark-haired man who mentions the arms race in the 60s is Lee Pfeiffer, editor-in-chief of Cinema Retro. The interviews with fans and the stars are included on the MfU DVD set.

  • Thank you for identifying them all on this video. They were identified via graphics on the original TV airing of this story... but I had to use a non-graphics copy for this You Tube upload... for better video quality.

  • I love it! "The Man from U.N.C.L.E." is truly the best tv show EVER! :D

  • I remember when I was little we would all laugh whenever they mentioned Thrush. It's a nasty smelly infection horses get in their hooves. It always seemed so not evil. But I loved the show, except the 3rd season which sucked when they tried to have their writers do 2 one hour shows a week.

  • Thanks for your comment. For me - personally.... I still love the early episodes from the first two seasons. They still hold up as good drama / humor for me.

... the third season was damaged - as were MANY shows of the era.... by the stupidity of Batman's influence.

Lost In Space, The Green Hornet, UNCLE... even Star Trek's third season ( in part ) suffered from the campy stupidity of Batman.

  • Yeah I got all excited too then I tried to watch them. What I thought was super cool in the 60's when I was twelve now seems so boring and trite that it's painful to watch an entire episode. Man From Uncle has not aged well.

  • Can I borrow them when youve watched them.

    Its not on youtube........

  • I just received The Man From U.N.C.L.E-The Complete series as a Christmas gift. It's really wonderful to see this series after many years. My first experience in watching the series dated by the late 70's and in Spanish, so I'm glad I have the opportunity to hear the show in its original English. All the special features are great. specially the interviews with David and Robert. I love both characters both my boy was Napoleon Solo. Una serie realmente Magnifica!
