  • @swstryker it's more about public popularity today than it ever was; personally I liked the fact that the grammys used to be more about peer voting from industry types, while American Music Awards, Peoples' Choice and MTV Awards have ALWAYS been about what's popular (which I already knew, so I never bothered tuning in to those shows)

  • @shnooger Pop or country

  • Melitha Ethridge? Cyndi Lauwper?? DUH!!!

  • @Starkardur So what are they then?

  • None of these rock vocals is rock

  • WE were so glad to see her get that long overdue recognition. Was she made at her husband that night, though? Everyone got thanked and kissed but him.

  • @swstryker ..well..THE GRAMMYS are not a popular contest award show..or like the AMERICAN MUSIC AWARDS who are based in popularity on charts or media..GRAMMY awards are presented by the Recording Academy, the same as does AMPAS who deivers the OSCARS..its a peers vote..so..i think its unfair to say that BONNIE RAITT winning that year was pathetic..at least even before the ceremony NICK OF TIME was not the favorite..and it was due to her winning that teh american public re-discover RAITT

  • Every now and then the grammys gets it right. This time they did Bonnie has made great music for years well deserved. Her reactions are priceless. You can feel the love from the other artist as well

  • @lynnsaoirse I have nothing but good things to say about Bonnie, I'm just saying this was a total "feel good" award. The category was BEST ALBUM OF THE YEAR. I feel the only standard you can use is record sales and chart placement. Is it fair? Not sure. Is it always right? No. But in this case, the album Full Moon Fever was a far superior album. Trust me, Bonnie deserves every credit for her entire career, but in this case the Grammy's got it wrong. JMHO

  • @swstryker It's not about sales. Bonnie had paid her dues by playing great music mostly under the mainstream radar for a lot of years and you couldn't find a better singer and woman anywhere. Her music holds up years later, and I can listen to her incredible vocal phrasing and guitar playing all through the years and still love it all. You see how people leapt up in the audience with pure joy and delight for her on their faces. Her humility and integrity shine through.

  • And as far as pop vocal performance female, that should have gone to my personal favorite Paula Abdul or Better Midler...
