Iranian AirForce managed to maintain, rebuild and in some cases reverse engineer the aircrafts in times of economical and military sanctions with almost 0 foreign support. This is while soviet union saturated the iraqi military with over 500 MiG-21, MiG-23, MiG-25, Su-22, Su-25, Mi-24, Mi-17s and 2500 Tanks with millions of weapons including 500 SCUDS.
Meanwhile Iran recieved 100 scuds, ~1000 TOW, 40 aircrafts, 200,000 guns/rockets and ~100 tanks at 10x the price. hope this helps u.

The only reason why the Iranian pilots were so good is because we trained them. Iranian pilots today are a mere shadow of their past fellow pilots.

In the end when Israel attacks every Iranian pilot would be smart not to challenge the far superior Israeli Air Force. Those that do will be swept from the skies with ease.

I read a book about 6 years ago called Iranian F-4 Phantom II Units In Combat (Osprey Combat Aircraft 37) and it was a fascinating book and a great read! There was even an account of an F-4 crew downing an Iraqi Su-22 with cannon fire from their Vulcan M61A1! It showed a grainy looking black and white gun camera still of the jet going down. I would have loved to have met that Phantom crew and gotten their autographs :)

Look dude. I am Persian. War is for uncivilized people. Now we certainly have a regime that kills us everyday inside the borders of Iran. People of Iran have no enmity with anyone. Our first enemy is the regime in Iran. But regarding Israel, I do not even bother to talk about it. Isreal is as large as one of our villages and there is nothing called Isreali Air power! That is American air power.

@immortal4942 no one was reffering to an Israeli air attack; he was just stating that in a dog fight Israeli air force is superior to Iranian... which is true. Also, the only alternative options Iranians have for countering an airstrike would be with outdated soviet artillery, seeing as they do not have EMP's ._.
