At a news conference last week, House Republican Leader John Boehner (R-OH) and other House GOP leaders sounded the alarm on behalf of middle-class families who stand to see their taxes raised, their care rationed, and their medical decisions taken away and replaced by the directives of Washington bureaucrats under the Democrats government takeover of health care. Following are Boehners remarks at the news conference:

On every major issue addressed by Congress and the White House this year, it's the American middle class thats taken a hit. From the trillion dollar stimulus bill to the fiscally irresponsible budget to these endless bailouts, Washington has asked the middle class to bankroll trillions in spending that we know we cant afford.

Now, it appears that Democrats are ready to lead the middle class off the cliff again, this time, on health care. Were here today to urge Americans to get engaged and to be on alert for what Congress is about to do to rush a health care bill through this Congress and into law.

They want to rush this bill through Congress as quickly as possible so that no one will understand the applications of whats about to happen. President Obama is in Wisconsin today pushing for rushed passage of a bill thats going to make health care more expensive for Americas middle class.

Now, lets be clear: Washington cannot afford to repeat the same mistakes made on the stimulus, the omnibus, the budget, and the bailouts. Middle-class Americans and small businesses have too much at stake when it comes to their health care.

The Democrats emerging bill raises taxes. It rations care and puts bureaucrats, instead of doctors and patients, in charge of medical decisions. It amounts to a government takeover of health care, and it would force millions of Americans off their own plans and into a government-sponsored plan.

Republicans know that theres a better way. Working with Roy Blunt, the chairman of our Health Care Solutions Group, weve got better solutions to make sure that the middle class in America has access to high quality, affordable health insurance. And I hope that the Democrats will continue or begin, I should say, to work with us to craft a bipartisan bill that will really address the needs that we have in our health care system without throwing the baby out with the bath water.

I'm not an American freeloader trying to get free healthcare from Britain. I worked in Britain and I paid taxation there.

Yes of course I'm back in America, they had enough of me, but that's besides the point.

I know that when I was death's front door step, a British doctor was there in my time of need.

Why can't America be like that? Now that I am back in America, I want Government Sponsored Healthcare cause I seen how the other side works. It does work.

  • @sixletter

So I'll appreciate your opinion on the matter on Universal Healthcare, but no matter what you say to me--you cannot change nor can you alter the great services Britain's NHS did for one of your fellow Americans.

I fell sick, I collapsed, they fixed me up! Case closed!

If Social medicine is so bad why am I still alive?

Maybe its not for everybody's cup of tea, but I knew it worked at least in my case.

If you say Universal Health is bad, I should be dead. Right?

  • @sixletter

I am not trying to judge you, but I've moved way beyond Privarte Medical Insurance. That's very old school.

I've lived in the UK where they have Government Sponsored healthcare, and I can't say one negative thing about it, and Yes I am American.

I didn't have a problem with social medicine so judging from my own personal experiences with Universal Healthcare, it was a good thing for me. That's a fact.

Private Insurance companies are not your friend.

  • God always has plans because he has no loss whatever happen because it is just your superstition naming gods above all. Real god from eternity needs no name because there were no human and primitive human languages at that time. Eternity existed before any human existed unless it was a fake eternity or unless it is the eternity in our fantasy. Try ask your preachers about the eternity in human primitive psychologies and their histories in your churches.

  • I know the right wing extreme tea beggars can create jobs. It would be more jobs in FOX News for spreading lies but not any for those unemployed population around street corners lost homes.

  • Heavenly Father has intrusted the GOP to run congress, and in the white house, But failed. Now He has a plan for this country, and He will hand this country over to the depraved minds, and this country will destroyed itself by these depraved minds from the left.

  • 1) What are they? 2) I suppose we just let medicare run out in 7 years, then we'll get to see what a real tax increase looks like. 3) get the terms correct (gov't takeover?)and stop the lies. You had the majority when Bush was in office for 8 years and did nothing about this. -Blame yourself. The dems. beat you to it, and you're looking real bad right now. Keep panicking. I like it!
