It is simple. Most paint is a lot simpler when we make it. I was thinking today, we spend so much time trying to make some painting that looks like someone else's painting, that we cheat ourselves of the real joy of just making something which is ours. Something that does not look like somebody else's. If your idea is clear enough, you don't really have to spend a lot of time with fancy technique. You just put your stuff down until it says what you want it to say. I want this to be a celebration and I think generally these paintings which are using pure color have got to be a celebration. They're not about world hunger; they're not going to suffice to make people think about global warming. They're going to have to do paintings which are just a joy or a celebration of the things that we like about life.
