Before you even touch your skates to the ice, it's a good idea to introduce yourself to the very basics. See how to stop on ice, and also how to fall and get back up again safely.

I have just fallen over while doing the change from forward to backward while continuing in the same direction (Skate UK level 4). Unfortunately I didn't know that I must not use hands to break the fall and consequently badly sprained my wrist. I have been taught starting from level 1 but no mention has been made of how to fall safely. I will have to mention this as it is so important. Perhaps the instructors thought I knew.
