From the wooden box to the concept car:
A unique Making Of about the birth of the lightweight electric vehicle Opel RAK e

The path from an idea to the finished product is usually difficult to visualize. That makes the Making Of about the Opel Rak e even more special. The concept car which was jointly developed by KISKA and Opel was presented earlier this year at the Frankfurt motor show. With the help of images and 360 degree panning shots the video reconstructs in about 4 minutes the way from the first sketch to the building of a wooden box up to the clay model and finally the finished prototype.

@thankyou: The Opel RAK e is not a 1seater but a 2seater. It accomodates 2 people in a tandem configuration, one behind the other, ensuring optimum aerodynamic performance and energy efficiency.

im not exactly sure that i understand who this car is meant for. what advantage would this give me over my 4 seater compact sedan? better yet why would i get this instead of a 2 seater coupe? its narrower than a car but that doesnt make a difference when i need to park it. and you can't zip through traffic like a motorcycle. is it lighter weight? they didnt say anything about the weight. at a certain point you just have to admit you are only making something because you think it looks cool.

Uhh, Opel, you already have an EV, it's called the Opel Ampera (European Chevy Volt).

the future is now, not when gas gets to $10 per gallon....keeping a cost of less than $10-12K these will sell like hotcakes in the US. If anyone here doesn't see that this is the future, then be prepared to pay $10.00 per gal.....GM get your head on straight and be the 1st to offer affordable electric cars... not a $30K plus Nissan leaf ,Chevy volt or a Toyota Prius.

it's already a proven fact that 90% of commuters ride by themselves...take a look at the other drivers during your daily commute.

if it wasn't for the lack of range- i would buy it for sure- 100 km range in northern areas of europe, will dramaticly be reduced.

@mahmoudawwad1990: You would need a big van: the RAKe is a little bit more than 3 meter long and 1.2 meter wide, with a weight just a bit lower than 400 kg. Top speed is limited to 120 km/h and due to the extremely low center of gravity, stability is excellent. Moreover, thanks to the high sill of the vehicle, you sit in a very rigid ‘tub’ with a crush zone in the front, very similar to (safe) racing single-seaters.

im aware its a 2 seater. you can get 2 people in a coupe as well. you can also get two people on a motorcycle, which weighs even less than a rak e. if you want the comfort, safety and elegance just get a car. if you want the compact size, light weight, and cool looks, get a motorcycle. so again i dont see the advantage of this at all. maybe it would work in europe or asia, but there is no market for this in the US.
