Was singing this for a National Honors Society Breakfast at a local high school, and the band had stolen all the pianos. My words to my choirmates, "WE'LL DO IT LIVE!" Sang it a capella, massive applause, like a baws.
By far the best performance of this that I have heard thus far. My HS select choir sang this piece back in 06 at our final concert and being a part of the performance is a completely different experience, I would even go as far as to say life changing, and hearing this all male arrangement makes me jealous that I could not be part. Just amazing.
My High School Choir did this for our fall concert and that was 4 years ago and I still remember every word and note. This left a strong impression on me and i will never forget this song. this is a very good example of it but it is a little slow for me.
@kcoile715 While that is a touching story, I do not believe it to be true. This piece was commissioned about fifteen years ago by the Texas Choral Directors' Association for their fortieth anniversary. I find no information about the alleged murdered teacher in his biography or in information about the song.
When I was in high school, my select ensemble did this song. My teacher told us the story about it. Joseph Martin couldn't sing but he wanted to be in the choir class. His teacher let him be the accompanist for the class. It was basically his sanctuary. After a concert one night, she gave him some music to learn and she had to walk back to the classroom. Someone was waiting and she was murdered. It took him, I think, like 30 years to write this song because it was also the healing process.
music-gasm... massive music-gasm... so wonderful!

probably the best vocal and best orchestra on YT... but tooo slow... it should be more dynamic and passionate! now it sounds too calm.
