@hunter4runner is torqued to 35ft/lbs, the fsm makes the note to "check that the bearing has NO play", then check it again with the spring tention gauge, if it is out of spec (6.4-12.6lbs) then the torque procedure on the adjusting nut must be preformed again.

@briholt100 the fsm explains the torque procedure, the adjusting nut is torqued to 43 ft/lbs then the hubs is spun to the left and right two or three times, (three to be safe), then loosen the adjusting nut till it can be turned by hand, (this is usually about an 1/8 of a turn reverse), the nut is then re-torqued to 18 ft/lbs, after that your check preload with a spring tention gauge, the range is 6.4 to 12.6 for old bearings more toward 12, then the lock washer and the lock nut, the lock nut

I was thinking the same thing, though it's been awhile. Shouldn't they have loosened the nut in between the tightening to 12 foot pounds?
