Mathare Valley, one of the oldest and worst slums in Africa, is known as a valley of despair. One Kenyan woman stepped into the hopelessness and rescued hundreds of children from a life of poverty, drugs, gangs, hunger and prostitution. Her school, Mercy Care Centre, provides these children with quality education, a daily nutritious meal, spiritual guidance and social support. The school ensures the children feel loved, supported and safe. Despite the daily crisis in the slum, these children and teachers display strength and dignity beyond words.
These are children who have come out of nothing; from having no basic necessities, to being given the chance to dream about becoming tomorrow's leaders.
