i am gonna keep harping the fact that this trent has made some amazing music, no doubt about that.

but if i am going to listen for just lyrics, I am going to listen to stuff like Tom Waits, Mountain Goats, Residents, Swans, Current 93, and the obvious Bob Dylan.

He's a great artist, his words are great as lyrics and resonate in the heart, but I agree wit u - he is not some world class poet - his music and overall energy is his poetry.

In fact very few great rock lyricists would cut muster as poets

Trent is a fantastics composer of instrumental music. What he doesn't get enough credit for is his ability to create poetry. The lyrical content of his musical creations is far superior to any of his contemporaries. I thoroughly enjoy listening to NIN. It's very inspirational and powerful music.

This song has to be the most motivational nin song. I interpret its lyrics as end the end you can only rely on yourself, a kind of you are your own best friend concept if that makes any sense.
