  • whatamiwhoami: "no, I do not want you to lose your job"

Of course you don't but that will be the unintended effect of an increase in minimum wage. Your "good intentions" are worthless. The only thing that matters are the real-world results of a policy when put it's put into practice and in that respect the data is clear, minimum wage laws increase unemployment among unskilled workers.

  • The role of government is to maintain the rule of law, nothing else.

It is not the role of government to point a gun to an emloyers and force them to do what they want them to do.

If you want to see real porverty go to africa.

  • I really see no point in arguing with you, A good employer doesn't need a union, and a small business will do well if they have proper management, Do a little bit of homework, how old are you and who feeds you the information you spout? Check your facts. Now I really am through debating with you. Enjoy your day.

  • What do you mean, the average wage is higher then ever.

You do know that large corporation love minimum wage law because small busness which can't afford to pay their employees more go out business, eliminating the competition.

So when you raise the minimum wage what your really doing is making those corporate fat cats even fater.

  • 2 years later the politicians are fatter and the poor are weaker and we still have not raised the wage...go figure.

  • no, I do not want you to lose your job. I want to pull families out of poverty. Do not put words in my mouth.

Think about others as well as yourself, Do you live with Mom and Dad? count yourself lucky.

  • So you want me to lose my job.

  • When your employer says he cannot pay you he is making an excuse, his pockets are deeper than he is letting on, Where I lived in BC the fast food restaurants were begging for help the youth went through them like flies, lasting a week if that. Perhaps you are the exception to the rule.

  • As I said perhaps you did not understand, you may, living under your parents roof be able to sustain your self with pocket change, however you try to pay for rent, utilities food and gas and your wages will not cover the cost to live on your own.. is that the solution...

I am extremely opinionated I was on my own at age 16 supporting myself with no extras at the end of the month, It was bleak. Minimum wage should at least pay the bills. You do the math living on your own.

  • And your solution to that problem is for those people to loose there job that they need to support their family.

5% of the population works at minimum that doesn't seem to represent a "many people"

And most of them are teenagers.
