We sang there recently and Christchurch has an incredibly unforgiving acoustic (i.e. once the congregation is in, there isn't any reverb at all and you may as well have everyone singing in your lounge). Beautiful building though and well worth going along to any of the services if you happen to be in the area.

I disagree. When properly performed Walton sounds wonderful. The choir were having intonation problems here throughout their performance.

is that the john fowler that contributes quite a bit to CPDL?

Can't help but think, "what just happened?" after listening

Whats wrong with it. Im sick of my church telling me off for playing stuff thats too modern!!
They can do what they like, but, im not living in the dark ages. This is 2009 not 1709!!

I think composers who write this type of music are poking fun at religion.
This is tuneless, discordant, and just plain awful.

This is not my favorit! I have this on cd, I think a cd of the Westminster Abbey Choir and thats sound much much better

yuk ! awful discords and jagged melodic lines. typical modernist rubbish
Why is the conductor positioned in the choir, behind most of the singers? Aside from suffereing from some intonation problems and lethargic rhythms this is a good performance. The room is pretty dry, or is this just the recording?

The conductor was in the choir because he had to sing. Regrettably, we ended up short on tenors for the touring choir. The room is rather dry and it is exacerbated by the recording. I was asked to place the camera in the gallery where it would be unobtrusive.

Yes, that's another sobriquet for it.
