True, but the song and dance sequences are usually loosely related to the story. The story here was that he had just met Manisha Koirala's mysterious character at the train station. He falls in love with her and she leaves in a different train leaving him behind. So he had just found love hence the song - ishq ki chao, chale chaiyya chaiyya etc :D

It's what is referred to in Bollywood as an 'item number'. A random actress or dancer shows up and dances and has nothing whatsoever to do with the rest of the film.
