The cymbal crash at 1:21 is the best part ... otherwise, the performance is so- so. Whats's better? Zubin Mehta LA Phil 1976 is the best (tho' the recording engineers of that excellent performance did not record that cymbal crash loud enough). Other (better-than-Abbado) performances of Mahler 5 are: Solti/CSO/1970 and Levine/Philadelphia/1977.

One of my life long dreams is to be conducted by Maestro Abbado, playing Mahler 5... or any Mahler symphony for that matter.
