If owing money isn't a criminal offense anymore in America, why are so many debtors being sent to prison? People need to pay the bills, says New Deal 2.0's Bryce Covert, but throwing them in jail won't solve anything. As Americans use credit cards to charge food and clothing as prices go higher and wages only drop, they need to be punished for being fraudulent, says Covert—but not by putting them in prison.

  • How can people pay there bills if there is no money? Federal Reserve Notes are just that "NOTES" a promise to pay. Under the 1933 bankruptcy "which we are still under" they are suppose to discharge your debt. Oh, I forgot...I'm not suppose to know about that. They didn't teach us about this in school because they have to keep the scam running and the people as dumbed down slaves. I guess you could just use the bond they have on your straw man and accept for value.

  • In 1833 the United States abolished Federal imprisonment for unpaid debts,Six states (Arkansas, Arizona, Illinois, Indiana, Minnesota, and Washington) allow debt collectors to seek arrest warrants for debtors in default if all other collection methods have failed. Whether a debtor will actually be prosecuted or not varies from state to state, county to county, and town to town...

  • Just another example of bringing back antiquated laws and practices that so many have fought to abolish and reform through blood sweat and tears. How can this be happening? In a few short years all the civil rights that were gained over the hard work of generations are being systematically crushed. Welcome to George Orwell's Big Brother society. This is being implemented globally with such swiftness everyone is reeling from the impacts of one shock after another and nobody knows how to stop it.

  • Banks charge enormous amounts of money on fees and interest and credit card companies are charging up to 29%, and many people are simply paying just interest, criminal!

  • Μολῶν λαβέ

  • Does this mean we can throw Bush and Obama in jail? if so then I am all for this...

  • Spending money they dont have.. That sounds like the US government.

  • @edwinr360 Exactly what I was thinking. Good call!

  • I elect to raise each individuals debt ceilings to an exaggerated high for the year and when they see they cant pay it back then have the ability to raise it again the following year.

  • LOL with the argument at 1:22, ok, lets put our whole government in debtor prison too!
