Display is cool, but the motor is too noisy.
-
I want one. I want one now.
-
Great looking communicator. To bad the motor from the morie pattern makes so much noise
-
I don't think it's "crap"...certainly not for the money. Even the Playmates one from 1994 with the static moire sticker was good for the time, and the price. I'd certainly rather buy a DST one than throw money down the toilet on a so called master replica.
-
the morie' that comes with this is crap. nice upgrade.
I did have to read what you did 1st to notice it because the video is bad,..loll
-
That's modified? Really? It's looks the same, so nice work there.
-
You have to replace the moire? I didn't know the DTS version required assembly. Did those parts come with the box? And where did you buy yours that was the best? I'm confused now.
-
I'm confused (a regular condition for me :p ). Was what's shown supposed to be the "before" condition, because in the description box it says "... and lights removed, replaced with metal bezels and plastic rhinestones." , and yet in what's shown the lights are clearly still there and working.
-
how do you take the original moire off the communicator?
does it unscrew or do you have to pull it out?
thanks.pete
The communicator is ready to use right out of the box. If you get the Entertainment Earth exclusive version, it has the extra phrase right out of the box. Nothing needs to be added or changed.

Yes the round thing spins (it's called a "moire" pattern). I replaced the parts on mine except for the motor, which is why my moire is brighter and clearer. The stock moire can also be improved by mounting the two patterned discs closer together. Google for a site called herocomm for an understanding of how the moire effect works.

Mine I picked up at the Forbidden Planet in Manhattan, about a week ago.

If you mean the kind of grinding noise, that's the moire motor. I put some lubricant on the gears to try to reduce that, but it's still noticeable. Not as bad as before I think.
