Federal investigators say they have found body parts amid the wreckage of missing adventurer Steve Fossett's plane. The wreckage is in the mountains of eastern California. (Oct. 2)
I agree with you He shouldve been very experienced with downdrafts. but you know just like sparky imeson the guy that wrote mountain flying bible got killed because he broke one of his own rules. old pilots get comfortable when flying becomes second nature. its sad. but youre right it seems he wouldve known all about it. doesnt make sense.
Amed, This is also strange. I didn't do any mountain flying, but I read a lot about it. I bet Fossett, being very experienced pilot, knew all about downdrafts. This subject pops up in every aviation publication quite often. As well as in the NTSB reports. ...unfortunately.
Strange crash. Small planes don't dive into the ground at high speed, unless it's intentional, or pilot is incapacitated. I guess we can rule out the control failure, as it's just a simple combo of cables and pulleys that never was a cause of accident before.
i personally think foul play was involved... he's quite a rich guy you know? His wife requested that he be declared dead on February 15, 2008... steve was missing on September 3, 2007...
Most planes do... The investigation as to why the plane cash is still on going. My guess Is that it was probably a mechanical error, suicide or he was incapacitated. Given that plane hit at a high velocity and heading straight (take for an earlier video). That would indicate that he didn't try or couldn't pull up or slow down. This means that he ether did it on purpose or he was incapacitated at the time. It could also mean that the plane was damaged enough that he could not do ether.

they will dive into the ground if you encounter a downdraft larger than you maximum climb rate. LOL.

I heard that the dogs scarfed down the body parts and that's why they were being elusive about answering the questions
