  • HI Francis, i have been watching all your videos and have found them very informative. I am looking to build a studio in my house in the UK, it the room is currently about 12 ft long by 6 ft 6 wide with a smallish window at one end. I was hoping to build a vocal booth at the window end which would be a partition wall about 3 1/2 feet from the end. This would leave me a room size of about 8ft by 6 ft 6.

Is this big enough for a studio. which way would be best to place speakers. Thanks

  • @jobbitydun 8' X 6'6" whilst not being ideal is more than enough for a mixing space, it compares to the type of size room broadcast audio deals with on a day to day basis in their outside broadcasts trucks. The speaker placement should be along the 6'6" length at least 1" away from any wall. This would give a space between the speakers of 4'6" which should be a good distance to create an equilateral triangle between the listening spot (where you are sitting) and the two speakers.

  • @jobbitydun In such a small space reflections and standing waves are going to be an issue so good sound treatment is essential. The first place to treat is at the point along the wall of first reflection, (there's some great tips in Studio Rescue for finding this). The second thing to look at is sound de-fusion at the back wall, and finally I would want to look at bass traps in the corners. Good luck and thanks for watching!

  • Where are you guys based? I'm in Perth, Western Australia. Do I even bother submitting?

  • @Calcard94 Hey Calcard. We're looking at Atlanta USA for the next season, but being Aussie we'll certainly be bringing the studio rescue home in future, so definitely worth getting in now.

  • Is There New Episodes Coming, Because These Are Real Informative.. Get Good Idea's From It...

  • @JonChicagoDeepGarcia Thanks Jon. We're accepting applications for the second season now via the link in the video description, and are looking to premiere it later this year.

  • If you skip to 4 mins and listen to the rooms sterile reverb and ping, and then skip to 10 mins.. you can hear an improvement already! and that's just a vocal recording from the lav mics.

  • Hey Francis, I rent a lofted room in a loft and its pretty big around 20' x 10'. I wanted to make a bit of "studio" space but the only place I have it is in an area with a half wall on two sides. I can't use the other end as I need "privacy" as it is my bedroom ;). Essentially I am stuck facing a wall, with one half wall directly to my left, one 7' behind and the 15' room to my right. I'm at a loss. Ideas?

  • Opal from event wow...
