Aircraft: 1984 Mooney M20J
Call Sign: N5767Z

I was VFR to Napa, but the marine layer did not burn off fast enough. The video starts as I was picking up a pop up clearance from NORCAL approach. It was a very thin layer, but instrument students might be interested in the radio calls.

  • can you count that as an ILS APP in your log book?

  • @revowild Are you asking if I was in actual IMC and can count it towards my instrument currency? It is subjective and up to the individual pilot, but I would count that particular approach.

  • Nice! I'm taking IFR lessons now and based in Napa. This really helps but it so hard to talk to ATC, remember heading altitude and reporting where ATC wants u to at the same time fly the airplane, stay within the localizer, at the same time preparing a missed approach altitude. Wow!!!! I do fly the airplane with 100 times more accurate now though. Thanks for sharing and your right about the radio calls. It really helps.

  • @Jimiec It is called a video patch chord that you can buy from Aircraft Spruce. Your video camera must have a microphone input.

  • GUMPS!

  • @dtoften you betcha

  • You are correct, but I seemed to make it to the airport in one piece anyway.

  • Not "eleven-thousand," but 1-1-0 thousand!

  • What was your wiring config from the intercom system into the video camera?

  • nice job!

  • I fly out og DVO, just west of Napa. Are you from around here?

  • @willharris1000 I usually cruise between 155-160 KTAS on about 10 GPH.

  • Awesome!! God I miss flying...

  • By far one of the most interesting videos I've seen on Youtube. Coming from a VFR student pilot I'd say you and ATC worked well together. thanks for posting it and letting me know what I'm in for after I finish VFR.
