The Siege of Jerusalem in the year 70 AD was a decisive event in the First Jewish-Roman War. It was followed by the fall of Masada in 73 AD. The Roman army, led by the future Emperor Titus, with Tiberius Julius Alexander as his second-in-command, besieged and conquered the city of Jerusalem, which had been occupied by its Jewish defenders in 66 AD. The city and its famous Temple were destroyed in 70 AD.

Josephus claims that 1,100,000 people were killed during the siege, of which a majority were Jewish, and that 97,000 were captured and enslaved, including Simon Bar Giora and John of Gischala. Many fled to areas around the Mediterranean. Titus reportedly refused to accept a wreath of victory, as there is "no merit in vanquishing people forsaken by their own God".

  • @blackdot550 ... I'm not British or Roman .... But in fact British empire was the largest in history but .. it depends on the known areas in the era ... in era of the roman civilization it was almost controlling 50% of the known world . however the British empire was more influential but didn't control 50% of the known world .

  • @DONPRUPRU Its not a film its a series called "Ancient Rome: The rise and fall of an empire"

  • @ILIKEBIGTOYS Well said

  • @uafchris The Roman empire is the reason latin can be seen in most or all of Europe, but the British Empire is the reason why English is the international language.

And I'd also call the British Empire the most influential empire in history, for it was far more widespread than the Roman empire. The British Empire had territorial claims in all parts of world. India, parts of America, parts of Africa, Britain (ofc) and Australia. They even influenced the Arab revolt in WW1.

  • the name of this film, please!!!

  • @marmiedoise You're right, they should speak classical Latin.

  • @uafchris I never said who was more influential. I simply referred to who was "greater". I think the Roman Empire was a superior empire in most areas you can compare the two.

  • @blackdot550 No, the British empire was far more influential than the Romans.

  • @wowsuxballz i think you are making a bit of an exaggeration. The British Empire was the largest in history, i'll give you that, but the Roman Empire, i'd wager, was 10 times as great. Maybe i am just partial because i am a huge Roman history buff, but don't be so quick to compare your empire to theirs. Also, the amount of arrogance in your comments is staggering.

  • @Wolfen443 this is a bbc series that came out 6 years ago. and no, we british dont want subtitles to read. as tocqueville once said, the british must have inferiors to look down upon. if u want others to speak your language, learn to conquer the world first.
