Bible Women, a collection of songs about Jewish heroines such as Lilith, Sarah and Ruth, was written in 1995 by Elizabeth Swados. The work was originally commissioned by Ma'yan, a Jewish women's project affiliated with the Jewish Community Center on the Upper West Side, and has since toured the United States. This collection offers a lively and family-friendly alternative viewpoint to Jewish history. Elizabeth Swados, a faculty member at NYU's Tisch School of the Arts and renowned musician, director, and composer, has received five Tony Award nominations and three Obie Awards for her theatrical productions, both on and off Broadway.
