Sometimes we get hit by something so powerful and overwhelming that soon becomes part of us that you can not separate for the rest of our lives. Genesis art piece "In The Cage" is one of those things. Ever since came across it in my youth music has taken a different curve for me. That was back in 1974 . . now in 2009 this music still sounds as fresh as if just written now, that's the true value of great music . . you never grow tired of listening to it. Here is me playing a section I truly love in this song : that wicked ARP Synthesizer solo written and performed by the great Tony Banks, nothing is short from superb in this music . . the melody line, the intricate harmony, choice of sounds . . simply marvelous !

  • what are all the extra switches on the top of your arp??

  • @wilecuyote This is a non factory mod which drops the pitch of any note by a value of quarter of a tone.

  • What key signature do you play this is, i have a score i bought online and its in E Major during the solo (four sharps).

  • @untensil The solo is in Eb as on the record

  • Bel suono , bellissima esecuzione !!!

  • @martorana62 Thanks ! I wonder how this solo will sound on a Farfisa Syntorchestra :))

  • great sounds

  • I used to learn this solo, but didn't practise again for a while, because nobody asked maybe to listened to it ( no enough genesis fans around!). Really pleased to listen and see it on the real thing, ARP soloist, didn't knew it was a Fuzz guitar preset, very rich buzy sound, funny but it's exactly that. The Black and white colors is for ...very 1974. Cool, Thanks so much!

  • I agree, it's a lovely solo. The kind that you find in 70's music. Tony Banks is really interesting to my ears when it comes to harmony and progression chord. Another solo that I love from Genesis is from the album "A Trick Of The Tail", in the song "Robbery Assault And Battery" starting around 2m30s. With its clymax at 4m20s !

Here's another great synth solo from the band Harmonium (still from the 70's).

The solo is starting at 4:40 until the end.

    Greetings from The Netherlands.

  • @luigiperso No because this solo is freakin hard and I hate not being able to play to this standard.
